SuitCycle – give your old wetsuit another life
SuitCycle is our New Zealand wetsuit trade-in and reuse programme. It gives old swimming wetsuits a second life while helping more people find their way into open-water swimming and triathlon.
Send us your used swimming wetsuit from any brand and receive $100 off any mid-range wetsuit or above.
It is perfect for swimmers who have several wetsuits sitting unused in the wardrobe and no longer have a purpose for their older suits. Instead of throwing them away or leaving them to gather dust, you can trade them in knowing they will be reused for a worthwhile cause.
How SuitCycle works
- Send us your used swimming wetsuit.
- We assess its condition and decide on the best way to reuse it.
- You receive $100 off your next mid-range or higher-level wetsuit.
Supporting our local community
Wetsuits that are still suitable for swimming will be cleaned and repurposed to support:
- Junior triathletes developing in the sport
- New swimmers and triathletes needing an affordable first wetsuit
- Local swimming and triathlon groups requiring access to cost-effective equipment
- Community programmes helping more people become active
We know that putting wetsuits from other brands back into the community may not seem like the most obvious business decision for Glyde. However, we believe something bigger is at stake than the logo on the wetsuit.
Giving more people affordable access to the equipment they need helps grow our local swimming and triathlon community. When more people can participate, become active and discover the sport, everyone benefits.
What if the wetsuit is badly damaged?
Do not assume your old wetsuit is too far gone. Even if it can no longer be used as a complete wetsuit, we may still be able to salvage sections of the neoprene and turn them into something useful.
For example:
- If the shoulders or sleeves are damaged, we may convert the suit into a sleeveless wetsuit.
- If the chest or upper body is damaged, the lower section may become a pair of wetsuit pants.
- Usable neoprene panels can be turned into changing mats that help keep swimmers’ feet warm and clean during winter swimming.
- Smaller sections can be reused for repairs or made into other practical swimming products.
If we can repair it, reshape it, cut it down or turn it into something completely new, we will give it a go. We want to reuse as much of every wetsuit as possible and prevent usable neoprene from going to landfill.
A wetsuit sitting unused in a cupboard helps nobody. Through SuitCycle, it could help someone get into the water, join a local group and begin their own fitness and wellbeing journey.
